Pentelic marble. Found in Aegina. A standing youth, the head in profile, holds a small bird in his left hand and extends his right towards a hanging cage. He is accompanied by a sorrowful young attendant, who rests against a pillar with a crouching cat at top. The horizontal moulding of the stele has a relief band of palmettes and lotus flowers. Exquisite work of an artist who was possibly trained in the workshop of the sculptor Agorakritos and worked also on the Parthenon frieze. 430-420 BC
