There are less than 2000 yellow-eyed penguins on Earth and they breed exclusively in New Zealand. They live around 20 years, mate for life, and during breeding season they cooperate with rearing the chicks. They take turns minding the nursery and when one returns from fishing they greet one another in a manner that looks very affectionate by human standards.
