This old tree has lost the tips of one or two of its many branches but it is still a very powerful subject. It stands completely alone on Rannoch moor, a lone sentinel guardian to the massive mountains in Glencoe beyond. At first light despite feeling horribly ill I picked my way across the boggy peat hags and climbed a small ridge to keep the tree in the sheltered shoulder of the mighty Buchaille. The red light spread across the land like an open wound while vaporous clouds of mist randomly boiled away.
