Note :- The Ratlines were not load bearing to prevent anyone attempting to climb the mast again, the riggers did not start them until about 10ft up from the ground. To make them not load bearing the method of fixing to the stay was a clove hitch type of knot that would not stand downward pressure.
The last known Ganges Boy to climb the mast was Tom Boylan from Rugby who did this in about 1982 when he was on the fighting top the powers that be shouted if you don’t come down you will have to go home – his reply was they didn't tell me that in 1957.
