Atlin

Atlin, British Columbia, Canada

Pionier Cemetery on Discovery Road, grave of George Pike ('accidental gunshot wound')

It's just across the border from the Yukon and just across the lake from Alaska:
Atlin, the most northwesterly town in British Columbia.
There's still some professional gold mining and recreational gold panning going on in the ara.
During the 1898 stampede more than 10.000 people rushed throught Atlin within a year.
The Atlin Historical Society runs an interesting little museum in the original one-room
schoolhouse in town, with great photo exhibits of the Atlin gold rush.

On the shore of Lake Atlin sits the lake boat M.V. Tarahne, built in 1916, which once connected
Atlin to Scotia Bay, across the lake, where supplies from Carcross arrived till 1936.
Today the Tarahne offers a 'murder mystery dinner theatre' for visitors in Summer.
Atlin still has much of the authenticity that larger towns like Skagway and Dawson have lost.
Good places to visit are the wonderful Globe Theatre, built in 1917,
and the Pioneer Cemetery with some very odd grave markers
