We were down on 8th Street SE checking out a new Moroccan restaurant when suddenly at least five fire trucks responded to a fire at a pizza parlor about a block away. The response is always robust on Capitol Hill due to the risk of conflagration as most of the buildings share common walls. I was fascinated by the hook and ladder rig and had never understood why there’s a driver in the back, but since we were standing right next to the fire station, I watched it quickly back in and now see why he’s necessary. Very cool!
