A more intimate view of the mastodon

Tim’s take on the American mastodon (see previous picture for another view). I found those tusks particularly intriguing.

*****

The “dinosaur exhibit” -- as everybody calls it, although it’s much more than that -- in the newly reopened fossil hall at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History is fascinating. We finally got to see it after waiting six months for the crowds to die down (which they hadn’t, really).

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

Love how it's lit. The people in the frame help with the scale.
