Several people have asked about the interior of the new Apple store. It took up the entire first floor, with two enormous showrooms on either side of a central atrium with a skylight in the roof. It was pleasant enough, but fairly stark and lacked the kind of ornamentation I would have expected in a building of this era. The basement is also Apple’s and features pictures of Washington’s past along with a boardroom, and the top floor hosts the historical society and is filled with exhibits.

We stopped by Apple’s new flagship store in DC, which opened on Saturday. It’s situated in the former Carnegie Library (DC Central Public Library), a Beaux Arts building constructed in 1903 and restored by Apple. The place is gigantic and also houses the new DC History Center and research library, owned and operated by the Historical Society of Washington, D.C.
