Postscript: Heading back to the lake

I’ll just post these pictures fairly quickly, but we had heavy rain and bitterly cold temperatures a few days after we took the pictures in this gallery, and on our way back home from Virginia I was concerned about my friend the heron, so Tim parked the car and off we went in search of him in miserable conditions. We found hundreds of geese on a hill and the heron and cormorants huddled on a little island. Suddenly the heron took off and flew to an area across the water, in the process shooing off another heron that was sheltering there. Naturally, we had to hike through flooded pathways to get over there for a picture of him.

Not great captures, but all I had on me was my iPhone. Good thing I didn’t try to use a camera because I think it would have drowned.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

Looks like a brisk and chilly day, but a pretty scene nonetheless. I am so relieved the heron was OK with that cold weather. V

Super shot with the lovely trees in the background and the busy geese - good news your heron (and a friend) are OK :) V

Pretty setting! The geese definitely add interest. It's migration time in this area, so I hope to get out after Christmas and catch the flocks of birds going through. V
