I’m ending this gallery with a shot of the US Supreme Court, where Brett Kavanagh, the subject of the protest, is now installed as an associate justice.
People were waiting for a Planned Parenthood rally to begin, but we weren’t able to stick around. Later in the evening, another large protest took place in front of the court while Kavanagh was being sworn in, with demonstrators pounding on the doors to show disapproval and disrupt the private ceremony.
US Capitol Police said a total of 164 people were arrested during the Saturday protests for “crowding, obstructing, or incommoding.”

We went to a protest on Saturday at the US Capitol, just to see what was going on. A large group of people protesting the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Brett Kavanagh to the US Supreme Court had stormed the steps of the Capitol and stayed there until they were led away by the police one by one and arrested. We were in a large, very emotional crowd in front of them, taking pictures.
Regardless of whether one favors his confirmation or not, I believe this was a case of democracy in action.
