Shah-i-Zinda, mausoleum entry, Samarkand

Shah-i-Zinda is a necropolis in the northeastern part of Samarkand whose more than 20 mausoleums and other ritual buildings date from the 9th to 19th centuries.

Tim said it was quite difficult to take photographs at this complex because the passageways between the buildings were narrow and the entire place was pretty crowded.

Elaborate, symmetrical, evocative....what a beautiful building. Samarkand is a beautiful city. We can only imagine the trek along the great silk road. Very nicely composed. V
