Formerly a neighborhood church, now a residence (1885)

Hard to believe, but this house built in 1885 on the corner of 10th Street NE and Constitution Avenue used to be a church, at least that’s what my neighbor told me when it went up for sale in May. Now that I’m a subscriber of the DC Recorder of Deeds website, I got the lot and square number of the property and checked the records, and sure enough, it was owned by the Lighthouse Full Gospel Mission Church from 1971 to 1978.

It sold last month for the asking price of $1,250,000.

Pictures of the interior are at http://www.redfin.com/DC/Washington/134-10th-St-NE-20002/home/9904563 if you want to see what that amount of money will buy on the Hill. Personally, I didn't like the house except for the kitchen, which was spectacular. Oh, and it had a garage and sizable garden, too.

hardly a typical design for a house of worship...the new residents must be counting their blessings though..
