Sitting round the 'campfire' at District Wharf

A real attempt has been made to make District Wharf visitor friendly. In addition to the bonfire in a previous picture, there is also a “campfire” on the promenade around which people can sit. Firewood is stored in gray containers on either side of it, with attendants standing by to feed the flames.

We finally visited the District Wharf, a new development on the Anacostia River. It’s mainly restaurants and entertainment venues, as well as a place to just hang out on the water, but a welcome change from the derelict area that used to exist here. There are plans to expand it even further into a major attraction for tourists and residents alike.
