U.S. Route 66, in eight states

We visited the US Botanic Garden’s annual “Season’s Greenings” display titled “Roadside Attractions” featuring plant-based recreations of iconic sights from across the United States, with G gauge model trains chugging around, below, through and above the displays.

A sign for the famous Route 66, one of the first highways within the US Highway System. It was established in 1926 and ran from Chicago to Santa Monica, California, covering a total of 2.448 miles (3,940 kilometers), and was retired from the highway system in 1985.

an historic route to be admired for sheer ambition...it still lives too, at least as nostalgia..
