Matthew Brady, 'father of photojournalism'

Matthew Brady (1822-1895) is considered by some to be the father of photojournalism, thanks to his photos of the Civil War. His Exhibit “The Dead of Antietam” showed photos of corpses and was the first time many had seen the realties of war in photographs. The images of Lincoln on both the 5 dollar bill and the penny are derived from Brady photos.

Somebody had left a roll of Kodak film on his memorial. His grave and gravestone are immediately in front of it. The memorial was erected in the last 25 years and unfortunately gives the wrong date of death.

From the American Revolutionary War, posted earlier:

Excellent note and photo, Helen. Brady had other photogs in the field working for him during the war. Some of the photos attributed to him were actually from his employees. Vote.
