Portland Japanese Garden

This was the setup in the carp pond. I couldn’t quite figure out the purpose of the poles in the water, but they made for an interesting scene, and the carp didn’t seem to mind them.

I suspect the poles are to stop herons or other birds from taking the fish. Or maybe they are swimming lanes!
