On the road, Fes to Erfoud

Sadly leaving Fes and its medina behind, we spent a large part of the day traveling to Erfoud, an oasis town in the Sahara Desert, passing through an amazing variety of landscapes on the way.

This was a village overlooking the gigantic Ziz Oasis, said to be the largest in Africa with 1,300,000 date palms. It had been a fascinating drive, from the urban medina of Fes, to an alpine lake, past green fields and snow-capped peaks (and snow on the ground, too), to rugged mountains, oases and the Sahara Desert – all in one day.

Such a classic scene - just what one envisages for desert towns with the buildings blending into the landscape and the oasis of date palms. Perfect. VV

A super view of this village with all those date palms. What a great sight.
