A splash of color and a water dilemma

These brilliant flame tree (delonix regia, royal poinciana) flowers (maybe they were just brilliant because of the overwhelming sun ;-)) were in one of the many small parks that dot the Diplomatic Quarter. Somebody must water them so there is obviously enough water to tend gardens here, although my understanding is that most people don't have greenery at their houses.

What I did discover while doing the laundry the other day is that we have no cold water! All the water comes from a tank on the roof, and with these temperatures (in the cool season, it's about 100 degrees F during the day; in the hot season, it can go up to 140 degrees) and thus is always hot. People actually turn off their hot water heaters in summer and use just the roof water because it's so incredibly hot. I haven't yet figured out how I'm going to wash my clothes then, all of which require cold water wash and rinse.

Gorgeous image of the Poinciana flowers Helen. They grow here too.
I think if you fill your machine up at night, the water should be cool by morning.

The tree is a delonix regia, royal poinciana, also called flame tree and flamboyant! It usually flowers from May to July. Nice to see that flowers do grow in that climate. Saludos!

Beautiful flowers, They look like our Mexican Bird of Paradise. I like MummaDragon's
solution to your hot water problem. I guess you'll be staying indoors a lot. I was living
in Phoenix the summer our temp hit 122 degrees - and you are facing 140! Be brave my
friend.

An extra big freezer with a generous supply of ice cubes to add to a special tank inside the house which is room temperature? (I presume you have air-con?) And i thought Laos was hot. Ah me, It sounds impossibly hot. Good luck. The flowers are superb, and suitably flame-coloured. Maybe their water-supply comes underground so it doesn't boil them in the process of being watered?
