Nice shot of this tourist spot, Dave ... as you may (or may not know), Alcatraz was a MILITARY PRISON initially and was transferred to the US Bureau of Prisons sometime in the 1920's I believe. After the military prison closed, it left one maximum custody military prison in existence at Leavenworth (where it remains today) and is know as the United States Disciplinary Barracks ... sentences from a mminimum of 1-yr to life and houses prisoners from all the services (as well as an occasional incalcitrant civilian prisoner transferred in for 'training' from another federal prison).
