Twin Churches ~ December 31

New London, Minnesota

The church building on the left was originally the United Presbyterian church, built in 1898. In 1968 the Spicer and New London congregations merged, building Hope Presbyterian Church near the northwest corner of Green lake. The church was sold and became Grace Evangelical Free Church in 1969. In 1979 the building was sold to the Full Gospel Academy and among other things housed the Agape Christian Academy (grades k-12). In more recent years it has been a private residence.

The church on the right ("The Mill Pond Church") was built in 1904 as Trinity Lutheran Church. Until 1908 all church services were conducted in Norweigan. In 1971 Trinity Lutheran and Lebanon Lutheran Churches merged to form Peace Lutheran Church. The Mill Pond Church building was sold in 1974 and became the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Beautiful buildings, at least they are being used and not left to decay.

Interesting ..... the history probably reflects the changing nature of religions in the community. Nice winter shot too. Well done.

Nice capture Greg and an interesting story. Many of our rural churches have these kinds of complex histories often ending up as private residences.
