58 Years - Memories: October '18

Apologies in advance if you have received this in error. if so, please inform
me to be removed from the list.
If you don't recognize some of the names of the classmates below, well...
that's what yearbooks and reunions are for :

( KHS '60 & '61 reunion pics )

Please pass this email on to other classmates.
I'd like to keep this going, adding their responses to this list or one of yours...
as a reminder that hopefully for all of us, we have many years ahead to
reunite again.

Mahalo,
Hal Oshiro

Let me know of any other upcoming event(s) involving our classmates

OCTOBER 2018 POSTS - posts, starting with March 2009, are archived in:

Much Mahalo Carl for emailing Katherine and also for the update on the email address for Dennis Sayegusa.
Katherine, as I told Carl, your name initially didn't ring a bell.
But checking the yearbook I recognized you right away even though we didn't really know each other.
Hope you enjoy reading these posts and viewing the photos.

Doug, I enjoyed my visit just as much as you say you did.
My bad, but I now remember that I thought I saw a bit of facial response when I tapped on your shoulder for whatever reason.
That's just like you, more attuned to others, and your positives rather than negatives.

Roy, we did talk about you a bit so it wasn't like you weren't there : )
Yup, guess we're kinda past our golden years and sliding into our silver (grey ?) ones.
But we can still have fun with it.

Pat, Chester, those photos are now viewable... operator (me) error.

Aloha,
Hal

To: Hal Oshiro

Hi Hal.

Thank you for your thoughtful last visit.
I truly appreciate and enjoyed the visit very much.
I would like to mention that I am not considered paralyzed.
I have limited movement in my arms, legs and body,
I can feel heat, cold and pain.
I also can feel when people touch me.
Despite my physical disability, I feel very blessed and have all that I need.
I am very grateful to the Lord for everything he has done for me.
All the love, joy and peace that I have can only come from my faith in Him.
All of the visits from my classmates will show that I have always felt blessed and never without.

Again, I would like to thank you so much for you enjoyable visit.
May you and your family keep in the best of health always.

I'm glad you got to visit Doug.
He really enjoys the company.
I've been amiss the last few months.
Getting old is no fun.
Stay well.

Hi Hal,

Many thanks for keeping this blog going.
I appreciate getting the news and seeing pictures of classmates.
Like Pam Machida, I also tried to access Chester’s picture of their Alaska trip but got the message that it was “empty”.
Don’t know what happened but thought you’d like to know that Pam wasn’t the only one that got that message.

My best to Bing and hope she’ll be up and about soon.
The heat is finally over in Arizona and we’re starting to experience our beautiful fall and winter weather.
Glad to hear everyone is well and living well.
Thank you again for your time and energy keeping this going.

There are no photos in the link of my trip to Alaska to visit Jean.

October 7, 2018

Little late in posting the emails below because of a recent busy schedule.
Hope they're still relevant at this date and time.

Dropped by to visit Doug Savage Yoshimura yesterday.
He was in great spirits and we had a pleasant and interesting conversation.
Learned a few things from Doug that I didn't know about.
Seems he'll, through assistance from the care home staff or friends, research stuff he's curious about.
Impressed with his resolve to gain these kinds of knowledge, keeping in mind that Doug is paralyzed from the neck down.
He also showed me the tattoo he got that he made mention of in a previous email a while back.
Great looking stallion rearing up on it's hind legs.
I didn't have a chance to see the tattoo on his other arm that he more recently got of an eagle.
These tattoos were of course done with the OK/approval of his doctors.
They, as I was told, respected and admired his resolve and positive frame of mind, as was I.

Glad you and the others were able to get together Jean.
Sounds like you all had a great time.

Checked the link to the pbase site as a visitor and couldn't duplicate the problem Pam.
Not sure what happened but if does again please let me know.
Bing's new contact info is below.

Clarence changed his email address a while ago which explains his email post.
Thanks Abu, and anyone else with an email address change please let me know.

Thanks for the update Raynor.
Anyone needing the complete contact info for Bing please email me or Raynor.

Aloha,
Hal

Thank you for stopping by to visit me in Skagway, Alaska.
Sorry the hurricane in Hawaii blew winds up to Alaska and caused the strong winds in Juneau that messed up your cruise.
You all came a day early so my house was a wreck and I didn't have any appetizers made as planned.
I appreciate all the gifts you brought.
My kids really enjoyed the macadamian nuts.
One of their friends saw the can with garlic and Maui onion nuts and said,"Ewwh! How gross!"
I told her those were Boyd's favorite and she should at least try one.
When she did, she said,"Mmmm, these are deeelicious!"
You made a convert.
I hope the rest of your cruise went as planned.

Hi Hal,

Tried to click into Chester's Alaska trip but it said "empty"!
Is that correct?
So sorry to hear what Betty's going through especially since losing her husband.
Wanted to send her a card but the address shown seemed to be incomplete.
Thank you for all you're doing to keep us so informed.

Hi Ray,

Bing was moved into the rehab center on Thursday, 9/20. She is at Manor Care – Potomac, Maryland.
Bing is no longer contagious but is still experiencing some discomfort as a result of the shingles and her back problem.
She is in much better spirits and seem more alert.
Bing likes everything about the facility but the food – she said that the food here is worse than the hospital food.
She is still eating very little but is asking for and receiving Ensure.

Bing’s physical therapy has started and entails her walking for 1 hour each morning with the assistance of her walker.
Bing’s afternoon are usually free, and she has been watching her cooking shows on tv.
I asked her if she wanted her laptop and she said not yet – she is still napping a lot.

The direct number to her room is 301-765-****. She can also be reached on her cell phone.

Below is the number for the rehab center along with address.

Manor Care Health Services - Potomac
10714 Potomac Tennis Lane
Potomac, MD. 20854

(301) 299-2273

At this time and according to Bing, they expect that she will be in the rehab center for 3 weeks (roughly 10/11).
I will keep you updated.
