58 Years - Memories: August '18

Apologies in advance if you have received this in error. if so, please inform
me to be removed from the list.
If you don't recognize some of the names of the classmates below, well...
that's what yearbooks and reunions are for :
( KHS '60 & '61 reunion pics )

Please pass this email on to other classmates.
I'd like to keep this going, adding their responses to this list or one of yours...
as a reminder that hopefully for all of us, we have many years ahead to
reunite again.

Hal Oshiro

Let me know of any other upcoming event(s) involving our classmates

Thanks to all for their concern and keeping those in Hawaii in their thoughts.
We 'dodged a bullet' certainly but it's still early into the hurricane season.
The bigger concern at the moment is probably complacency.
Keep your guard up folks, never hurts to be prepared

Kudos again to you Tim, I'm always impressed and in admiration of your generosity and dedication.

Harriet, our 80th ( I assume you mean birthday ) will ( for most of us ) follow the celebration of our 60th year after graduating.
That being for all of our classmates, whether from another high school notwithstanding, we are still onetime classmates.
Hopefully there will be a 2020 60th year reunion held in Las Vegas, current hometown for a large number of those classmates.
But there's still our 80th birthday in 2022, with both those years really just around the corner within our lifetimes.

Aloha and Mahalo again,

My thoughts and prayers go out to classmates in Hawaii as Hurricane Lane gets closer.
I spent 7 days in New Orleans and 21 days in the Homestead Florida area after Hurricane Andrew.
I still experience flashbacks of what I saw, smelled and felt of the devastating effects such high winds and rain can cause.
Underestimating such events can be dangerous and even fatal.
Please be careful and be safe.

Hi Hal,

Fascinating reading what members of the Class of ’60 have done and are doing.

I also endowed a scholarship fund for a student from Hawaii and is from a single parent household at Pacific University,
Forest Grove, OR in my late Mother’s honor/memory The Ellen Choy Craig Scholarship.
She was a single parent throughout most of my life K-12.
Pacific University has a history of local kids going there and being about 20% of its enrollment.
The current President Lesley Hallick also recently signed an M OU with Hawaii’s Community Colleges for any of Hawaii's graduates
are given automatic enrollment to one of the medical professional programs that her predecessor President Creighton instituted
with Liberal Arts as a basis so students have access to employment upon graduation.

Aloha, Hal

The older we all get, the more precious these emails become.
I am so sorry to hear of Dorothea’s passing… we had several classes together during my time at Kaimuki High.
Interesting to read that Brenda Ignacio will be Reno today.
My husband and I live in Dayton, NV which is about 40 miles southeast of Reno.
We talked about going to the Aloha Festival in Reno this weekend.
We might just have to go.
Don’t know if Brenda would remember me but her husband, Robert Gore, might.
His father pastored Kaimuki Church of the Nazarene and we were part of the Youth Group.

Thank you, Hal for your continued efforts in keeping all of us classmates connected… it is appreciated so very much.

I have watched all the weather reports from home regarding Hurricane Lane… hope everyone is surviving all the rain, wind, flooding.

Aloha to all the students of my youth.
Sorry that I haven't been in touch with all of you.
Seems like the older I get the more busy I become.
Every time I read about one of us passing, I tell myself, I hope their life was full of love and happiness.
As for me, I have been up in Waimea Valley for over a year as a visiting artisan three times a week.
I get to spend my time working on my weapons and talking to the people that come into the valley all day.
What a lovely place to be.
My family name, {Mattos} means, one who dwells in the forest.
Check out Think Tech Hawaii, Community Matters , Manny Mattos, Portuguese With A Jewish Heritage.
Hope you like it.
Irene, call before you came in Sept.
Mahalo to all and GOD BLESS

Hi Hal:

Praying that you are all safe in Hawaii.
Have been following the storm on the Weather Channel.
Have been in touch with family and loved ones and thank you Jesus, they are all fine.

It is always so refreshing to receive your newsletter, so wonderful of you to keep everyone in the loop.
Although I did not graduate from Kaimuki, I did attend another Green and Gold school, Leilehua.
I have been keeping up with your post and pictures and amazed that I remember so many of them.
So nice to hear that Caroline Andrade Gouveia and Gerri Perreira have been in contact with you.
We were friends for years.

Most of my memories start from Palolo Elementary School, Kaimuki Inter and Kaimuki High.
Those were great days.

Just in case I can make it to the 80th celebration, and you have it in Las Vegas, please let me know.
Would love to attend.

Wishing all God's blessings.

Thanks Hal:

I remember Betty and hope she makes it to Reno.
Brenda dances at 10:00 am today😁

As Brenda and Irene pointed out, and as many of you have too, take the time to connect and enjoy family and friends.
We recently lost two more of our classmates, Ronald Morioka and Dorothea Yamamoto.
For those in Hawaii, being in touch has become even more important with the impending bad weather from Hurricane Lane.
Take care everyone and be safe.

Aloha e, classmates!

Here’s some happy news!
Robert and I are well and enjoying life with such gratitude.

I love hearing from Caroline Andrade Gouveia and Carolyn Amoy, when we cheerfully share life’s gifts.
AND best of all for these kupuna joints, I am in Pauline Kekahuna’s halau!
Her son and daughter are the amazing Kumu hula, and are they ever talented!
My friendship with Pauline is so joyful, as we are cut from the same cloth!
We laugh so much, as we prepare to dance in a hula festival in Reno on August 25!

We are a fortunate group of classmates from a time when kindness and friendships mattered.
Time is moving so fast that keeping our hearts lovingly connected in this blog is so beautiful!

Blessings to all,
Brenda (Ignacio) and Robert Gore

Hi Hal,

Mahalo for getting me back on the list, I am grateful that I will be able to catch up on the events that are happening with classmates.
Unfortunately, sad news about some of our classmates passing, my condolences to their families.
While I was in Hawaii in May, I did get a chance to visit with Doug Yoshimura.
He is an uplifting person and always so happy to visit with classmates to "talk stories."
He is a remarkable person and has an incredible memory.
I was glad to see had you got a hold of Gerri Perriera.
I haven't seen her since high school and lost contact.
Would you please forward my email address to her....would like to hear from her.
I will be back in Hawaii in September and hope to hook up with some classmates/friends.
Life seems to be flying by so much quicker the older we get, so let's not forget to find the time to visit and enjoy our family and friends.

Much Aloha,
Irene Rocha Elson
