bleeting smoke detector

Recent days have been taken up with domestic duties. The smoke detector started bleeting, and bleeting, and bleeting. I knew that meant I needed to change out the battery. Or, at least that is what I hope it means. To open the battery door, you have to pull out the plug to the AC/DC current. I, for the life of me, could not get the !@#$ thing out. Finally, after two days of struggle and buying a new step ladder, I pried it out with a flat head screw driver. So, after living with the thing and it's infernal noise, it is now finally silent. Hopefully it is also fixed and will actually go off if there is any smoke in the house.

This made me laugh since I have a bleeting smoke alarm myself. I haven't sought it out because it's in the attic (cold!) and I rarely hear it
