January 2006:
Visiting Islands of Tahiti,
French Polynesia. This was my first visit to this fascinating archipelago. We found a vibrant and unique world, surely worth a visit. Our travel has provided us with many unforgettable adventures, but also with a few objectionable annoyances, more than on any other Pacific state, which I visited so far. We decided to express our opinions, positive and negative alike. Make your own judgment, which of our experiences might be relevant for your own trip to Tahiti! Tahiti is expensive, take our word for it! The reason is the fixed exchange rate of the colonial currency Pacific Franc to Euro. Combined with the downfall of the US Dollar, this makes these islands at times extremely expensive to visitors from America. Europeans have the huge distance to fly, so arriving in Tahiti was always very expensive to them. Supposedly in year 2007 Pacific Franc will be separated from Euro, what might adjust the exchange rate and bring these Islands into a better position for visitors. |
