moorage

Astoria, Oregon

cargo ships ply the waters of the Columbia River...these ones, waiting for free berths in Portland, apparently take advantage of cheaper moorage fees at Astoria

That is a great composition to show the lineup. It’s interesting to see the smaller boat with the larger ones. V

What a line up. I like their bright colors. Beautiful clouds and mountains in the distance.

The tugboat puts those massive cargo ships in perspective. A lovely backdrop of mountains and dramatic sky!

Quite the traffic jam of giant ships.

Neat shot, I wonder what kind of cargo they will be taking on?

In addition to moorage, these ships must pay a pilot's fee, usually around 5k for the pilot to guide the ship to and from the port. This is a great view. I like how they are lined up. Our port has a bay, where the ships spread out. V

Delightful to see that tiny tugboat chugging past those giant cargo ships...docking fees would probably be based on cargo tonnage...V

Mooring fees - who knew! The colorful lineup stands out nicely against the gray day. V

Shows you how much I know. I didn't even know there was such a thing as moorage fees. Great group shot. I don't even remember seeing any lined up like this so close together. ~BV~
