sacred

Chaco Canyon, New Mexico

doesn't look like it in its current state, but this is a sacred structure...there are many kivas at Pueblo Bonito, and this was the largest one...a kiva was used for rituals and ceremonies, and would originally have had a roof

Ancestral Puebloans built this site and others at Chaco between approximately AD 850 and AD 1150...their descendants still live today, such as the Hopi and Zuni people
