Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

the altitude gain to over 9,000ft on the Lily Ridge Trail is largely at the beginning of the hike, so we took several rest breaks during the climb to admire the literally breath-taking views...ponderosa pines are the dominant tree on the ridge

An intake of breath -- then hold it! What a marvelous view from the top of the world, or heaven if you wish. Now exhale with the other angels about you. I love the sense of height here and the shadows on the tree bark: interesting patterns and shapes.
