On our last day we headed down the Skeena to the
remains of the ghost town site of Port Essington.
The cannery town was founded in 1871 and introduced
the first cold storage plant in the north in 1892.
The cannery closed down in the 1940s and fires destroyed
the remaining buildings in 1961 and 1965.
Now we found the town buried in undergrowth with a hint
of its former inhabitants here and there. For anyone
