Sydney Skyline

Sydney Harbour, Australia

Another view of the Sydney Opera House and the like from the upper deck of a large red boat.
Cities are weird places- I find it strange that they can be so full of people and yet strangely so lonely at the same time.
It also puzzles me to think about the history of the place- it has only been urban sprawl for such a short time of its occupation. Underneath it all is bedrock...

Under the buildings, glass sided, solid feet of concrete
under the buildings full of suits and talk of money
money business, so important
money business, building towers of glass and steel,
money business, playing people like chess pieces.
Under these dreams, unfulfilled and broken
Under these lives framed by pavement and credit,
there lies the bedrock
solid, real,
bedrock that has supported other business,
Proper business- Dances of belonging.
If we listen with our hearts
we still hear the echo of those dances
Dances of belonging to Earth.
But we have no time to listen, attending to the money business.
Like an excited child playing
we ignore the warnings
We dance to the tune of possession and despair,
dance away from that which gives us life,
dance towards our doom.
Our dance will echo in the bedrock
but only briefly.
Under Sydney’s towers of glass,
Bedrock waits for the dance of love to begin.
