Hiding Adder, Acanthophis antarcticus

Torrington NSW

The unfortunately named "Death Adder" gets a bad rap as soon as it is introduced- a valuable lesson for anyone thinking of naming
their son "Psycopath Jones". These snakes are potentially dangerous if stood on or picked up, but not as potentially dangerous as
people are to snakes.. These extraordinary snakes hide amongst leaf litter and lure their prey with the brightly coloured tail
(which is orange in this case).
They have become very rare over much of their former range.
