Sensitive Joint-Vetch
(Threatened!)

Mattaponi River, Virginia

This member of the legume family is known only from fresh to slightly brackish tidal marshes of the mid-Atlantic seaboard.
Due to its very low numbers and highly restricted worldwide distribution, the Sensitive Joint-Vetch has been federally listed as "Threatened" by the US Fish & Wildlife Service. The world's second largest known population of this species is found growing along the Mattaponi River, less than 200 feet from the proposed intake site for Newport News' planned King William reservoir project.

Dear Mr. Rouse - I am the Executive Director of a small Environmental Education Foundation based in WV. Our website is www.ditc-eef.org. Our current program embraces the endangered and threatened species within a 100 mile radius of Shepherdstown, WV and, of course, one of these is the Sensitive Joint-Vetch. We are looking for a photograph of this species and wonder if you would consider donating your photo to our site and it goes without saying that you would get full credit and we could also put your website on too. We are very stretched for funds (like all charities) and would hugely appreciate your assistance in this matter. However, if you are not in a position to allow us use of the photograph free, would you be kind and let me know what you would charge?

Sincerely
Alexandra Mennell Casserley
