Robins and starlings

Fletcher Wildlife Garden

There were about 40 to 45 robins at the garden, in two flocks, and at least 60 starlings. They were avidly feeding on any of the existing fruit: crabapples, as here, sumacs, the few amur corktrees that have escaped detection. The mountain ash fruit is mostly gone, just a few bits of rotting fruit hanging on, and now the birds have turned their attention to the crabapples they ignored earlier in the winter, when there was more choice.
