One of my lesser known interests is WW2 naval/submarine warfare and I was thrilled to finally visit one of only two remaining Type-IX German U-Boats in the Chicago Science and Industry Museum.
Having read so much about them, it was amazing to finally actually see and touch a Type-IX for real.
Every time I cross the Atlantic nice and comfortably with my 747 and a fresh coffee in my hand, I cannot help but look down into the deep blue unforgiving vastness below us and imagine the horrific battles that were fought down there. Of about 40.000 German U-boat crew members in WW2, almost 30.000 lives were lost at sea during the Battle of the Atlantic.
