The bulk of these African slides here were taken by Geoff Thorne, who married Janet Thompson, our mother, Barbara Gledhill's, sister. He and Janet, ran a company called 'Can-Trek' which booked long haul overland trips in Africa, Asia and South America with predominantly UK-based companies such as Encounter Overland and Exodus. In the very early 70s/late 60s Geoff went on an Encounter Overland trip from London to Nairobi as a combined passenger/employee doing research so he could sell the trips better once back in Canada. The majority of these pictures were taken in northern DRC (formerly Zaire/Congo) and Uganda, before Idi Amin made it an undesirable place to be.
