American Farmer 1958 Chrome Film (SD frame captures)
We buy a lot of film, hundreds of pounds at a time. We use it for testing, restoration etc. every once in a long while there is a gem buried there. This is one of those cases.
These frames are from a 1957/58 movie sponsored by Ford Motor Company. We have the lab master positive for the film as well as a separate German” audio optical track on another 16mm film. I believe the plot is that a kid from the city goes to work on an upstate New York farm for the summer. The neat thing is that this film is in great condition, and unlike the Eastman films of the 60’s and 70’s, this film has great colour (only rudimentary color correction is needed.)
There are city shots, boarding a train, passes Lowerre New York.
School bus is in Canandaigua New York.
School bus operator = Barbara Van Aiken
Bus number 11 ???
Whose farm is it. (I have not looked for closing credits).
Let me know john@bitworks.org
The frames her are from the 1st 600 frames of the film. There are fantastic sequences of working around the farm as well as the tool shop, repairing machines, harvesting, and family life.
Given that the sound track was in German, I might guess the purpose was to attract immigrants. I can see from the records that prints were made for the US sate department.
Some of the starting images have a lot of motion blur as they were taken from a moving train.
