Rio Futaleufú, Chile

There is no better place in Patagonia to whitewater raft than on Rio Futaleufu ("big river" in the Mapuche language). Some say it is the best for world-class whitewater experience. The river wasn't accessible until 1982 when a road was built, and the place has grown to become a Mecca for whitewater enthusiasts. The incredible clear deep blue color water offers everything from calm water for fly-fishing, easy segments of class II and III to extremely challenging ones of class V+ like Terminator for serious rafters and kayakers, all these in a spectacular backdrop of mountain scenery. We had a memorable week in this heavily forested area of clean, beauty and isolation. Its worth mentioning that BioBio http://www.bbxrafting.com, the company that operated this trip, did an amazing job on every aspect.
