We spent one day traveling by ferry from Roatan to La Ceiba on the mainland to do some whitewater rafting and hiking in the rain forest. The river level was low and the river was rocky. We didn't get a chance to change into dry clothes before entering the rain forest with an extremely knowledgeable guide Jorge, who took us on a 4km hike, with a 1000ft elevation gain, going up and down on wet and narrow passages. Alan was very wet as if he was still on the river. Surprisingly, there were no bugs! We heard many bird songs, yet birds were illusive. Portions of the forest are only 20 years old, and prior to that, grains were grown on the mountains.

Due to safety concern and the nature of this short visit, we brought with us the rental camera for underwater photography. It was a big mistake! The images are grainy and at one point the LCD stopped working, so I aimed at certain directions, hoping it saw what I saw.
