Juneau, the capital city, is accessible only via ship or plane. No roads connect it to the rest of the state. The Juneau area is almost as large as Rhode Island and Connecticut combined. Juneau is named after Joe Juneau a gold prospector in the 1880s.
Due to unforeseen event on the cruise prior to arrival, our time at this stop shrank from 10 hrs to just 5, which resulted in canceling land excursions. The heavy clouds and rainy condition prevented us from seeing the Mendenhall Glacier by the city.
