Black Bear

Northern Vancouver Island

A black bears diet consists mostly of grasses, roots, berries, and insects and I was a bit surprised to see this bear was feasting on every clover blossom that it could find. It reminded me of the time I watched a bear gorge on dandelion blossoms...they really do seem to have a preference for flowers! Black Bear facts: Black bears are not true hibernators. During their winter dormant period, though, they do not eat, drink, urinate, or defecate, but may wake up if disturbed. ~ National Geographic
