This is a collage of two images, both about my language.
In this Etymologic dictionary is the history explained of a lot of Dutch words, proverbes etc. — when they entered a language, from what source, and how their form and meaning have changed over time.
But you can also see my copy of this years "Groot Dictee der Nederlandse Taal". This is a tradition in the Netherlands. In the week before Christmas there is a competion in writing our language. An - always very difficult - dictation is given on national TV. The competitors are 30 celebrities and 30 selected people from the Netherlands and Flemish-speaking Belgium; and of course the people at home watching and writing with them.
This years' dictation was extremely difficult. The winner on TV (a Belgian; as is - I have to admit - almost always the case) made 8 mistakes. The average was 34. I made more than I ever did before: 27.
But it is always fun to join.
Great image and what an excellent idea for an intelligent TV competition! Finally, I see proof of a TV company that is prepared to exercise people's minds. You did well indeed, and your language must have quite a complicated phonetic system to record such a level of comprehension with native speakers.
