Discovering new and different places and cultures - far away and nearer to home - is one of the highlights of our lives, and we try to travel as often as we can.

On these journeys we especially enjoy going out at night: not for a drink, but to just aimlessly wander around the village, town or city to take in the local flavours (admittedly not always the best at that time of day) and sights. At nighttime there are usually less people around and the atmosphere tends to be completely different than during the daytime.

Our favourite place for this so far has been Venice in winter: the little alleyways, the colours, the water and bridges, the buildings. It is hard to return to the hotel after a while, but as we're getting older we really do need to get some sleep after a long day....
