Currently a high-end restaurant but was actually part of a working ranch until the early '70s. A number of famous people owned it at one time or another, one of the most famous being Pat Burns one of the "Big Four" who were the founders of the Calgary Stampede. The ranch and lands were turned over the the city of Calgary for a municipal park which is one of the largest in N. America covering over 12 miles. The ranch buildings fell into disrepair until a local couple formed the Fish Creek Restoration Society because the buildings were under a real threat of being demolished and were such an important part of Alberta's history. Restoration work is ongoing in the park. Massive flooding which hit the City of Calgary as well as the south end of the province in 2005, washed out most of the bridges in the park though a number were replaced last summer by helicopter. The whole valley was one big lake and the west end still can't be accessed from the east as the walkways (and the ground they stood on) tumbled down.
For interest's sake, the Ranche does serve farm raised bison and elk meats along with your more common fare...:-).
