The Guanella Pass is located above Georgetown, CO, along Interstate 70. The pass tops out
at the trailheads for Mt. Evans and Mt. Bierstadt (two 14,000 foot [4,267 meter] peaks)
and connects to Grant, CO, on Highway 285 on the other side. It's usually a fine place
for aspen viewing in the fall, but peak colors tend to vary from one year to the next
and can change drastically within a few days. This year I think they peaked a little
later than usual, but it really depends on where in the state you do your aspen hunting.
The southern mountains tend to peak later than the central or northern mountains.
