Well, those explanations are really interesting. Thanks to Laurie!
I had seen a couple of Frankenthaler before, but never heard all those explanations.

Helen Frankenthaler (1928--) was greatly influenced by Jackson Pollock, the leader of the American Abstract Expressionist movement. However, she realized that she could take his technique one step further. By adding turpentine to her paint, and thus thinning it, the canvas would quickly soak it up. This made the paint and the canvass seem to be "as one", akin to merging and being on the same plane. Frankenthaler has become most known for this style of painting which was inspired by the famous Pollack who TIME magazine called "Jack the Dripper" in 1956.
