It is believed that spirits and souls inhibits Earth and that the spirits can influence the well beings of human. A spirit house is used to invite and provide shelter for the spirits, this will help forge a common bond of harmony for the home or business occupants, between the mundane and the spiritual world.

The basic offerings of flower garland, the lighting of candle with joss sticks and the daily or occasional offerings of edible food is part of the ritual to please the spirits, in return for the occupants' good health and success in their undertakings.
