Hundreds of thousands of immigrants traveled the Oregon Trail. Where the rock was soft, their wagons wore down ruts that are still there today. This state historic site near Guernsey is one of the more dramatic examples. Not just ruts, they wore the trail down into the rock, going over the hill rather than crossing the river.
