Uphill on the other side of the basilica from the East church is what may be the most important find at Pella’s, a Canaanite temple. From the German Dumont guide I roughly translate: built in about 1650 BC and excavated between 1994 and 2006 by archaeologists from the Sydney University, this is maybe at the site of an earlier holy place . After having been destroyed it was rebuilt on a grand scale in Egyptian style with Migdol type towers on a ground plan of 32 x 24 meters, in about 1350. An earthquake made another reconstruction necessary around 900 BC, so in the Iron Age, which perished in about 850 BC.
