One of those "must see" cities. Famous for the burial site (and thus place of pilgrimage) of Mevlana, but otherwise also a rich city, full of great mosques, many of them from the Selcuk period. Some wonderful museums, nice people. Very religious, but it never bothered me. If you are here for some days, pay a visit to nearby Beyşehir for its wonderful mosque.

In 2020 I finally organized the many pictures in many sub-galleries. There are treasures in them.

KONYA

Mutlaka görülmesi gereken şehirlerden biri. Mevlana’nın kabristanıyla ünlü (bu yüzden dini ziyaretlerin yapıldığı bir yer), ama bunun dışında da zengin bir şehir. Burası, birçoğu Selçuklu döneminden kalma olağanüstü camilerle dolu. Harika müzeler ve hoş insanlar. Çok dindar bir yer ama beni hiç rahatsız etmedi.

Mr.Osseman Great photos of a mystical city. Makes you want to experience the beauty and antiquity. I couldn't believe the wonder of the modern shopping mall in the midst of all the history. It's amazing how the ancient can co-exist with modern buildings and not be despoiled. Kudos to the people of Turkey. And to you Dick for such a great documentary. Great captions too!

Sir, You have captured wonderful details, thank you very much. Konya is indeed one of the most religious cities in Turkey, but they are not as easily offended as in other regions and are truly kind people. If you visit the city once more, may I recommend Sille? It is an old small town very close, in fact it has become a suburb of Konya. There you will find and old abandoned mosque, converted from a church, which was once a pagan temple. And the still occupied cave houses you may find interesting as well. Kind regards,

Very nice pictures. Congratulations. You can find more informations about Mevlana and the ceremonies visit the page www.mkm.gov.tr . There are very much other historical and culturel places near of Konya which can be visited by daily tours. Come and enjoy it.

To me museums are very important. And with the great Selcuk things they have ýn that cýty that is an ýmportant reason why i went to see it. But maybe someday i may show some more (old or new pictures) Konya.

Dear Mr. Dick Osseman Thanks a lot for your effort ; and thanks for reminding me the beautiest side of Konya : the marvellous history of the city ; i was born in there and now living in another historical marvellous city ; Ýstanbul... Hoping you had find the chance to read about us and our history & culture before you visit ; then it is amazing for every humanbeing ; unfortunately photos or the buildings cannot talk at all... Pls keep in your mind to see the Archaeological museum for the next time ; it is a very big museum if you are interested in before Selcuk period... all my best

Hi, I was born in konya. The pictures are nice, however I have some comments on the pictures on Konya Kids. The kids seem to be from financially limited families. Anyone who has no idea on Konya may feel that most of the kids are living in such conditions. Obviously it is not true. It would be good to have some explanations on those pictures. It is like taking some pictures of poor kids from Harlem and presenting themas kids in Manhattan. Thanks

Poor work. Here is an old capital with lots of buildings. Its name is derived from Iconia. Iconia was a famous Pagan city. So you lost very much.

Hi, Ps or what's your name, Are they still paintballing in Konya? I mean, it is 36 years since James Hale of Daisy Manufacturing invented the gun, and I remember playing it in the mid 80's. I thought people would have thought up something new, but well, this is good old-fashioned Konya of course. I try and keep my lenses clean, so ... I didn't write the city is small, but I found many of its suburbs depressing, and it's traffic just horrifying, so I concentrated on the centre, and by habit I concentrate on things that have some culture attached. . As I wrote on many occassions, shopping centres in my mind are hell on earth, fit for a thoughtless kind of consumerism that seems to give the Ps's of this world a sense of belonging, of culture even. A colleague described today his experiences in Shanghai and Peking, cities that also seem to want to throw their history out of the window as fast as they can. Now those are big cities .....

I don't like that, I'm living in Konya but Konya isn't a small city. You can see very beautiful places. Shopping centers, paintball courts, parks etc. I mean we aren't living 1980s Bunu sevmedim, Konyada yaþýyorum ama Konya küçük bir þehir deðil. Çok güzel yerler görebilirsiniz. Alýþveriþ merkezleri, paintball sahalarý, parklar vs. Kastettiðim þey 1980lerde yaþamýyoruz

Everyone should visit Mevlana Museum and also try to understand the philosophy of Mevlana and Hz. Þems. And it's a pity that if they don't feel anything inside, photos are good but can't reflect the sense of the Sufism so first of all you should be there by yourself and feel it, deeply inside. I tried and was a good experience:)

thanks for everybody they studied for these pictures. but I thýnk this work is limited for konya. because konya is a very big city and has people from every society. however you have used only pictures of mevlana two of museums and a few children and they have not almost any clothes or shoes. konya is not only these pictures. thanks

Hi my name is Judie and I am from Texas. I met a wonderful young man online from Konya in July 2000 and I went to meet he and his family and they live in Konya. It was nice to look at the pictures you have taken there an see places that I have been many times on my 6 trips over to be with he an his family.
