I’m looking for information on my great grandmother who got married around here. I have a picture of her in her wedding dress standing in front of this hangar in what I believe to be the 50’s. My grandmother was born in the area as well so I believe they lived in Dade long enough to generate a good amount of data. I don’t have much to go on, if anyone has any potential resources I would greatly appreciate it.

I stood in this hangar, along with the blimp, many times in the 60's when my dad worked for SunLine aerial photography.

This Hangar was built for the Navy at Key West during WWI. It was bought by the City of Miami and reassembled at Opa-locka in 1929. It was first used by the Goodyear blimp Defender in January 1930. It was last housed a blimp when a Thunder and Colt GA-42 was inflated in January 1990 with flight tests in February 1990. The hangar was dismantled in January 1995.

I remember in '80 when my aunt and her family arrived during the Mariel (Cuba) boatlift and this hangar (or another on the property) served as a processing site for many refugees before they were released to their relatives. Its imprint is still there.

It was not destroyed for Miami Vice. That was just a simulation. In fact it was used in several episodes of Miami Vice. Also it was used in Bad Boys at the end. It also was not actually destroyed. It was demolished a few years later by a demolition crew (without explosives)

I believe this building (or what was left of it) was blown up for an episode of "Miami Vice" back in the 80's.
Such is South Florida. If it's old, DESTROY IT! Too bad.
