The current building on the site, in 2017, is a rehab. The records show that it was built in 1949. Now a funeral home!

Our family use to eat there all the time, as we lived only a few blocks away- remember restaurant in early days- no A/C and Duke would play Music from his office on a record player- remember all the old wine bottles hanging from the ceiling- always had very friendly servers- Remember riding on the same school with Babs Mansene going to Southwest High

Harry Schrier. I lived down the block and worked there as a bus boy with Jack Gilbert. Duke was a character, hot-tempered cooks throwing things at us for fun. Always loved the place. After Medical School and starting practice in Miami my young family ate there for many years. I remember Jamie & her sisters. Duke's wife, Joanne, was a real lady.

Was this the same as Mansene Italian Restaurant? Does anyone here know if 'Duke' had a daughter name Babette? Another daughter was married and lived in Orlando. I've been looking for Babette for years. I was new in exile from Cuba (of course) and Babette was wonderful to me. Actually the whole family was. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Phil, thanks for posting. No problem. It's caused by refreshing the screen for some reason.

Favorite hangout for the race track crowd. Asked for and received Bert Lair's (Wizard of Oz - Cowardly Lion) autograph while he was eating there in the 50's - 60's. The beast food attracted some big names in the day.

We used to eat here with my husband's family, and have searched endlessly to find an italian restaurant that could compare. Have never found it in the last 45 years!

I used to work there while going to school. Duke was a real caracter to say the least. He would bring his pals back from the dog track and play cards till the early morning. It was the best Italian food in towm.

This was my all time favorite restaurant. Grad of Coral Park 1971, I ate here for my graduation with my dad and grandma. The best dish was this Filet a la Chico. Named after the chef who made it. Thin slices of meat cooked in wine and garlic. Not to mention the best garlic stick. Thanks for the memories.

Chris Male, Bob Drake, have not been in touch with you for awhile. When you think about it, we worked the parking lot duty together some nights. Contact Don Boyd to get my current email address.
Chris Male 15-Jul-2007 05:27
I lived right behind there on 36th court, in fact my first job I ever had was there and I would stand out in the parking lot and make sure people wouldn't park their cars in Duke's lot and walk across the street to the track. I got paid 50 cents an hour. By the way, it's not a restaurant anymore but is a funeral home now (2007)

they have a series of history books on miami beach, little havana, etc..and in the little havana book you can see a photo of the place with the owner in front I believe. Also you can observe street scenes of Riverside. The best thing about it now is Casa Panza, this kickass tapas bar.

Across from the Dog Track. That's were a lot of their business came from.
That picture could also be from summer of 1956 on (when my family moved to Miami)that I know of. We first lived on NW 35th Ave & 4th Street and I used to walk up there and get pizza take-out to bring home. Excellent cheeze pizza. I feel like I can smell it now.
Dave 08-Jul-2007 13:38
If memory serves it was on Douglas Road and NW 4th Street
